The Coyote Howler Pack
See what there is to howl about.
Dads and guardians who volunteer to help at least one Friday (8:50am-1:25pm) a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal and teachers. Check out which days work with your schedule on Sign Up Genius.
Howler Dudes will be helping all over the school, at recess, and lunchtime. Dudes can bring a lunch from home or buy school lunch for $3.40. During the day, Howler Dudes may be asked to read with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, patrol the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.

Howler Dudes are needed to help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.

Howler Dudes also provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

Howler Dudes are there for a high five, to let students know they are doing great, and to encourage kindness.

Howler Dudes will be greeted in the office by one of our PTA volunteers. The are given their uniform for the day, a hat, fanny pack, and lanyard after they check into the school They receive their schedule, help with announcements, and say the pledge with our Student Council. Prior to their arrival we have contacted their students' teachers to let them know a Howler Dude is on his way. There are 3 time slots between announcements, recesses, lunch, and the end of school in which we let all teachers know the Howler Dudes are there to help. Some may help with reading groups, grading papers, or even reading a story to the class.
Sometimes they are not needed in the classroom, but that does not mean they are not being helpful. Kindergarten, first and second grades are on a READventure and earn buttons for every book they read for the challenge. Rock the Halls and Davis Book Battles need buttons as well and the Howler Dudes have been there to help make them!
Howler Dudes wear a bright orange fanny pack, and make it look good, which carries a number of high five stickers to hand out in addition to giving high fives. They also carry one most sought after paw. These are not always given out, but meant to be a reward when a Howler Dude witnesses an extreme act of kindness or help. These paws are collected by each classroom with the end goal being a paw party.
You can spot the Howler dudes at lunch where they can either bring lunch from home or purchase lunch at school. The eat with their students, meet the friends of their children, and is there to help if needed.
After lunch they are usually off to another classroom, but sometimes they are there to help change the art on our new Art Wall. Mrs. Miles, our art teacher, has picked out about 25 works of art from that week to be displayed. The Dudes remove the previous week's art and hang that week's work. Students stop on the way out at the end of the day to check and see if their work is on the wall. Check out our Art Wall in the commons area next time you are in the school.
If we happen to have Howler Dudes the first Friday of the month, we ask them to help us set up for Rock the Halls. Our theme this year is Hats Off to Reading! Two tables filled with hats are readied for the top readers to take their pick. Readers can also bring a hat from home to be worn during Rock the Halls. To know who is a member of the Coyote Pack just look for a hat. Since they are wearing a hat it is only right that they join the top readers as the Rock the Halls.
After school they may be asked to help with the direction to the after school pick up. We are working hard at making sure the pick up goes smoothly and we appreciate they help!

How the Coyote Pack volunteers benefits
Dads benefit in seeing their students’ everyday world at school and learning more about what challenges and decisions today’s kids are facing. In turn, dads can hopefully understand more about their students and find a connection.  Fathers gain a greater awareness of the positive impact they can have on their student’s life in three critical areas including: academic performance, self-esteem, social behavior.
